Ulrich, do you know that war maybe started here today? we've been hiding all day long, nothing happened in our part of the city, but we have two hospitals around us, they are receiving wounded people all the time.
i just hope it is not THE war, and only for some days. i'm too tired for this
I didn't know. Checked with the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" - online, my favourite newspaper. Last entry concerning Lebanon is rom the 15th, which actually was quite optimistic, mentioning the chance of peace negotiations with your southern neighbour. What is going on? I cannot understand, but only imagine that you are so tired of all this. And it so even more difficult to understand from the outside WHY all this violence is created and focussed over there. For me it seems that there is not the slightest bit of understanding for the "other" side(s). I am sure that I have mentioned the central European not-all-to-long-ago history previously. People in countries like Germany (Prussia), France, England have killed each other by the hundred thousands, there was a strange mixture of hate and respect. the nazi regime was just picking up these notions and pushing it to the most extreme perversity. but nevertheless (for the moment) it seems that these times have been overcome. but, who knows? take care - not a great advice, i know - and try to get out before things get really nasty. promise?
it just started this afternoon and is localized in the north of lebanon, all around us. it may not be talked about in the media, unless it lasts enough time or kills enough victims. we are pessimist because there is so much hatred in here. everybody hates everybody, and it gets violent. i don't much understand either, me being so allergic to politics, i don't have in my head a very clear idea of the situation. all i know is that it's explosive.
if it gets worse, we can always run away to Montreal, we have a house there! i promise at least not to go out on the balcony if it gets too near (i used to do this when i was a kid and drive my mother crazy)
no symbolism behind it, or maybe a deeply unconscious one...
